Calgary fire crews fight two alarm garage fire in Taradale

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9th, 9-1-1 started receiving calls regarding smoke and flames coming from a detached garage located at the rear of a property on Taraglen Road N.E. When fire crews arrived, they encountered a double garage, fully involved with fire. Due to the volume of smoke and fire, a second alarm was called for additional resources.

Firefighters worked quickly to get the fire under control and prevent spread to nearby structures. No residents were at home when the fire started. After a search of the garage, nobody was found inside and no injuries have been reported at this time. The house on the same property sustained some heat damage to the vinyl siding as a result of the fire.  A car parked in the back alley and some nearby garages also sustained heat damage.

Fire crews will remain on scene to search for and extinguish hotspots and utilities to the garage have been shut off. Calgary Police officers are assisting with traffic management as traffic in the area has been impacted due to emergency vehicles and firefighting equipment.  EMS is also on scene to deal with any potential injuries. Calgary Fire Department Fire (CFD) Investigators are attending the scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire.

If anybody has any photos or video of the fire, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, please email piofire@calgary.ca The CFD thanks all those citizens who quickly called the fire into 9-1-1 so that fire crews could quickly respond.
