Calgary fire crews fight two alarm fire in Saddle Ridge

At approximately 3:20 on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 , Calgary 9-1-1 started receiving calls reporting a house fire on Saddletree Close NE. The fire quickly spread to one of the neighbouring homes. Two teachers from a nearby school jumped into action and started knocking on doors to alert residents about the growing fire so that  any residents could quickly evacuate.  When fire crews arrived on scene, two houses were already involved. The  incident was quickly upgraded to a second alarm for additional resources.  One resident and two dogs  who were in the home where the fire started ,escaped safely prior to fire crews' arrival. 

Due to potential impending structural collapse, firefighters needed to transition to a defensive firefighting strategy to ensure their safety and thus were unable to conduct a thorough initial search of the properties involved. The homes on either side of the affected houses were searched to ensure everybody had been safely evacuated. Both homes  were significantly damaged and one neighboring house sustained some melted siding from the radiant heat. 

Fire investigators are currently on  the scene to determine the origin and cause of this destructive fire.  ATCO Gas is working on shutting off the damaged gas line and electricity has been shut off to both properties by Enmax.
