Calgary Fire Crews Fight Industrial Fire in South East

At approximately 2:00 in the afternoon on Tuesday, April 11th, multiple callers to 9-1-1 reported a structure fire at the 3800 block of 15A Street S.E. Significant flames and large plumes of thick black smoke could be seen from a distance. A second alarm was quickly called for additional CFD resources due to the large volume of smoke and fire. One caller to 9-1-1 reported that the tent structure had tires, batteries, oil and gasoline inside. Multiple small explosions could be heard coming from the fire.

The fire was brought under control before 3:00 p.m. and firefighters continued to douse hotspots. Damage from the fire was contained to the structure and the immediate surrounding area. CPS officers were on scene to redirect traffic and ensure roads were closed to support firefighters' efforts. EMS paramedics were also on scene to assess any potential patients.

Approximately 15 employees of the auto recycling facility safely evacuated the compound without injury. No other injuries were reported. Calgary Fire Department Fire investigators are on scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire.  To help with the investigation,  anybody who has video or photos especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, is asked to please email piofire@calgary.ca
