Calgary fire crews fight basement fire in Citadel

At approximately 2:15 on Monday afternoon, a resident on Citadel Close called 9-1-1 to report a fire in the basement of her home. When fire crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke was visible coming from the basement. Both adults who were home at the time, safely evacuated prior to fire's arrival.

Firefighters quickly entered the structure to extinguish the fire. A primary search was completed and nobody else was found inside. Damage to the structure is significant, especially to the basement.  The fire also caused damage to the floor joists making it unsafe for fire crews to walk on that area of the main floor. There is smoke damage throughout the home.  The residence did have working smoke alarms.

A fire investigator was called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire.
