Calgary fire crews contain industrial fire in southeast Calgary

The Calgary Fire Department responded to a fire at an industrial building in the 6300 block of 10 Street S.E. this morning.

Fire crews were dispatched at 7:50 a.m. after reports of smoke and flames were reported inside the building. Approximately 100 employees safely evacuated after the fire alarm was activated. One individual was assessed by EMS for minor injuries, including singed hair, but did not require transport to hospital.

Calgary Transit buses were requested to shelter employees who remained at the scene.

Due to heavy smoke and low visibility, the fire was escalated to a second alarm at 8:25 a.m., bringing in additional resources. At 9:20 a.m., a third alarm was called to rotate firefighters and apparatus in extreme cold without disrupting firefighting operations.

The fire was declared under control at 10:20 a.m. Crews conducted thorough searches of the building, confirming no one remained inside. Firefighters are currently working to ventilate the structure using a large industrial fan to clear lingering smoke. 

Utilities to the building have been shut off, and hazardous materials teams remain on scene to assess and manage any potential chemical hazards. As of 11:00 a.m., CFD apparatus remain on scene to search for hotspots and continue ventilation. Fire investigators are also present to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
