Calgary Fire Crews Battle Two Alarm Townhome Fire in Legacy
At approximately 2:50 in the morning of Thursday, July 25, 2024, Calgary 9-1-1 started receiving calls reporting a townhome fire in the community of Legacy in the south east. When fire crews arrived, they were met with significant smoke and flames that were extending into the third level of the town home. The fire was quickly escalated to a second alarm for additional resources. This fire grew very quickly and made interior conditions dangerous for firefighters. While attempting to do a thorough search of the upstairs part of the home, two firefighters went through the floor resulting in minor injuries. They were taken to hospital and released later today.
When other fire crews completed the search, accessing the upstairs from a neighbouring townhome through the common wall, they found one adult woman deceased in the bedroom. The medical examiner attended the scene and an autopsy was was completed Thursday morning.
The Calgary Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
The investigation into the origin and cause of this fire continues however, at this point, there is nothing to indicate anything suspicious about this fire. Fire watch will continue into the evening to ensure there are no further hotspots.
