Calgary Fire Crews Battle Two Alarm Fire in the South East

At approximately 2:50 in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 10th,  Calgary 9-1-1 started receiving calls regarding a fully involved garage fire.  Callers also reported flames burning the powerlines in the back alley and spreading to the house on that property. The fire was upgraded to a second alarm  due to the volume of dark smoke visible en route and for additional resources due to the extreme heat.

On arrival, crews were met with a garage and house fire with flames  quickly spreading to the neighbouring garage and house.  Several hydrants were used to supply water to various fire apparatus for an aggressive knockdown of the fire. 

Nobody was found inside the house of the source property where fire started and no injuries were reported. There was a dog home in the neighbouring house however he was not injured  as there was no smoke or fire damage to the inside of the home.

The garage of origin was destroyed and the house sustained significant damage, as fire quickly worked its way into the attic and through the roof. The neighbouring house sustained external damage and the garage was significantly  impacted by the radiant heat.

Calgary Police Service Officers redirected traffic in the area and ensured fire crews had adequate room to do their work. Enmax and ATCO were called to the scene to disconnect utilities and a fire investigator arrived on scene to start the investigation into the origin and cause of this fire.
