Calgary Fire Crews Battle Two Alarm Building Fire in the South East

At approximately 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, Calgary 9-1-1 started receiving multiple calls from citizens reporting smoke and flames coming from the balcony of a four-story condo building located on Bannister Road S.E.

When fire crews arrived on scene, the incident was quickly upgraded to a second alarm due to the volume of smoke and flames visible as well as the size of the building.

24 residents were evacuated and sheltered in a Calgary Transit bus. Three residents were unable to evacuate via the hallway and exit stairwells and needed to be rescued from their balconies by firefighters using ladders. Several pets were also rescued by fire crews.

Two people were injured, and one was transported by EMS to an area hospital.  At 3:45 p.m., fire crews were still on scene for salvage and overhaul and checking for any hot spots.

Calgary Fire Department fire investigators are on scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire. Anyone who was in the area and has photos, video, or information regarding this fire, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, is asked to please email piofire@calgary.ca
