Calgarians invited to spread the love on Thank Your Driver Day

Every day, Calgary Transit operators show up through early mornings, snowy nights, packed platforms, and routine rides home.

On March 18, Calgarians are invited to come together for Thank Your Driver Day and recognize the people who keep the city moving safely, reliably, and with care. This year’s message says it simply and sincerely: Calgary hearts you.

“Behind every trip is an operator who shows up with skill, resilience, and a genuine commitment to our customers,” says Sharon Fleming, Director of Calgary Transit. “Thank Your Driver Day is an opportunity to pause and recognize the human connection that makes transit more than just a service.”

From buses and CTrains to community shuttles and Calgary Transit Access, operators are the steady presence behind hundreds of thousands of daily journeys. They are often the friendly wave at the curb, the calm voice during service disruptions, and the professionals Calgarians rely on year‑round.

Calgarians can take part in Thank Your Driver Day in simple but meaningful ways:

·        Say thank you, smile, or wave when boarding or exiting

·        Share a message of appreciation on social media by tagging @CalgaryTransit on X or @calgarytransit.com on Bluesky, using #ThanksTransit #ThanksCT

·        Submit a commendation through 311 to recognize an operator who made a positive difference in your day

As a citywide symbol of appreciation, the Calgary Tower will be lit up Calgary Transit red on March 18 to honour transit operators and the role they play every day.

Thank Your Driver Day is an international event that takes place on March 18 each year commemorating an important milestone in transit history. On March 18, 1662, Paris launched the carrosses à cinq sols (“five‑penny coaches”), widely considered the first modern public transit service, with fixed routes, set fares, and regular operations. That early model helped shape the public transit systems we rely on today.
