Calgarians invited to lend a hand through the 2025 Snow Angels campaign

Snow has returned to Calgary, and with it, the annual Snow Angels campaign is underway, encouraging Calgarians to support one another by shovelling a neighbour’s sidewalk.

Becoming a Snow Angel is simple: adopt a sidewalk and keep it clear whenever it snows. Calgarians are encouraged to look out for neighbours who might need help with snow removal and lend a hand.

Snow Angels are especially valuable to older adults, individuals with limited mobility and anyone else who might need temporary assistance keeping sidewalks safe and accessible.

“By lending a hand, Calgarians are not only helping their neighbours and making winter easier to navigate, they’re also inspiring kindness across the community, says Maerge Gebreegzabher, Team Lead of Home Services for Seniors at The City of Calgary. “Together, we can create a ripple effect of generosity that lasts all winter long.”

Each year, The City of Calgary helps residents recognize Snow Angels with a printed certificate. Certificates can be downloaded from calgary.ca/SnowAngels or requested through 311 via the web, mobile app or phone. Snow Angels and those they help, are also encouraged to share their stories on social media using the hashtag #yycSnowAngels.

Since the program launched in 2004, thousands of Calgarians have participated as Snow Angels, fostering a spirit of community and support that continues to grow each winter.
