Bring your community together for Neighbour Day on June 21
Calgarians are invited to celebrate community connection by planning a Neighbour Day event on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Inspired by the resilience from the 2013 floods, Neighbour Day began in June 2014 as a grassroots celebration of neighbours supporting neighbours. It honours those early efforts and continues to grow through neighbour-led events, building lasting connections that last beyond the day itself. Whether it’s a block party, BBQ or neighbourhood gathering, Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to come together and strengthen the bonds that make Calgary a welcoming city.
“Neighbour Day is a uniquely Calgary tradition that shows how powerful it is when people come together," said Mayor Jyoti Gondek. "Whether you’re hosting a BBQ, joining a block party, or simply introducing yourself to someone new, it’s these small moments of connection that strengthen our communities and our city as a whole. This year, we’re excited to support even more celebrations with the introduction of the #YYCNeighbourDay microgrant. It’s a great way to bring your ideas to life and make your Neighbour Day event even more vibrant and impactful.”
The #YYCNeighbourDay microgrant offers up to $2,500 to support neighbourhood events that foster creativity, inclusion and a strong sense of community. This funding helps amplify the spirit of Neighbour Day by encouraging Calgarians to plan meaningful gatherings that bring people together. Applications are open until May 31, 2025—don’t miss out on the opportunity to enhance your Neighbour Day celebration.
Permits for block parties and greenspaces are free, and applications are open until May 31, 2025. You can invite special guests such as Mayor Gondek, your local Councillor or even a fire truck visit. Be sure to add your event to the Neighbour Day calendar so others in your community can discover celebrations happening nearby.
In addition to the many neighbourhood events taking place across the city on June 21, Sport Calgary’s All Sport One Day will also give children a free opportunity to try a new sport, while collecting donations of used sports equipment.
