Bodies found in vehicle identified

Two men who died as a result of a targeted shooting on a street in northeast Calgary, have been formally identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

At approximately 9:20 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, police were called to the 1000 block of Marcombe Drive N.E., for reports of a suspicious vehicle that had been left running on the street. Upon arrival, officers located two men deceased inside the vehicle.

Upon completion of the autopsies, the deceased have been identified as Kuanyliet KOGALT, 20, from Calgary, and Garang Deng (Cody) AKOAR, 20, from Calgary, who both died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Currently, there are no suspects in custody. Police continue to investigate and ask that anyone who may have information about the circumstances that led to the shooting to come forward.

Anyone who was in the area of Marcombe Drive N.E., between 9 and 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, including taxis and other vehicles that may have dashcam footage, is asked to contact police.

As the investigation is still in its early stages, no further information will be released at this time.
