Bennett – Burke family statement

We are sharing the below statement on behalf of Shakiel Ahkeem BENNETT’s family. No additional details are available at this time.

“We are absolutely devastated by the loss of our son, Shakiel Ahkeem BENNETT, who was tragically taken from us just days ago. Shakiel was loved by so many, and his loss has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled. We are completely overwhelmed with grief.

Shakiel was a caring, giving, loving and self-less person. He cared deeply about his friends and family and would do anything to help anyone. He absolutely loved to laugh with his friends and family.

Shakiel will be greatly missed by his parents, his two brothers and four sisters, extended family and relatives, and his many friends.

At this time, we want to express our sincerest gratitude to everyone for their love and support and helping us through this incredibly difficult time.

We are kindly asking the media for privacy at this time so we can grieve the loss of our son, brother and friend.

We may submit another statement at a later date after we have more time to process our devastation by the shocking and sudden loss of our beloved Shakiel.

Our family has set up a Go Fund Me page to help support with funeral plans. We would like to thank everyone who have so generously donated already. A celebration of life will be held in the coming days.

We are asking anyone with information to please come forward to the police. Any piece of information, no matter how small you may think it is, can make all the difference in helping police find who is responsible for taking Shakiel’s life and holding them accountable.

A parent should never out-live their child. We are now forced to live the rest of our lives without our son, who had his whole life ahead of him. We were robbed of the chance to celebrate life’s milestones or enjoy day-to-day life with him. We will never fully be able to heal until justice is served for Shakiel.”
