Be proud, cheer loud! Celebrate the Calgary Flames Stanley Cup Playoffs with free family fun
The City of Calgary joins all Calgarians in congratulating the Calgary Flames for clinching first place in the Western Conference and is gearing up to celebrate their run for the cup.
"This is a great time for our community to celebrate the Calgary Flames and support local businesses,” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “Make sure you’re playing safe and having fun!"
The City has been working with the local business community and broadcast partners to help ensure hockey fans of all ages have safe options to cheer on the Flames throughout the playoffs.
Home Games: Red Lot Community Viewing Party
This event is free and available for all ages and will be held during each home playoff game. Fans in attendance can watch the game live on the enormous TITAN screen along with live music, Harvey the Hound, face painting, interactive stations, food and drink specials, and prizes available to be won.
When: All home playoff games (beginning Thursday, April 11).
Time: Three hours prior to puck drop until end of game
Tickets: FREE for all ages
Away Games: Olympic Plaza Community Viewing Party
We’re turning Olympic Plaza into a free, fun and family-focused area for all away games. Starting one hour before puck drop, Olympic Plaza will become a giant living room with:
- A big screen to watch the away game live
- Family activities with draw prizes
- Food trucks
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or a blanket to sit on. Alcohol and smoking are not permitted at Olympic Plaza.
When: All away playoff games (beginning Monday, April 15).
Time: one hour prior to puck drop until end of game

Tickets: FREE for all ages
Calgary Transit will take you to and from your celebrations safely throughout the playoffs. We’ll have extra CTrains on standby to help get customers home from the dome. Transit riders are encouraged to make their way to the station right after the game to catch their CTrain, if games go late into overtime.
Taxis, rideshares and limousines
Taxis, rideshares and limo services are a safe choice for traveling around as these services are regulated by The City of Calgary and must meet safety standards before drivers can take passengers.
Passengers are reminded of these simple safety steps that they can take before their rideshare journey begins:
- Verify the information provided by the app: their license plate, vehicle make and colour.
- Confirm your driver’s name before you provide your name. Make sure your driver matches the photo on your Rideshare app.
- Check the driver’s rating. Rideshare companies have platforms to rate and check a driver’s rating.
- Share your location and destination with someone you trust.
- Report any concerns about the driver, vehicle or trip by calling 311 -- or use our 311 mobile app.
The Red Mile: 17 Avenue S.W. business district
After the Flames had secured a playoff spot, The City connected with hundreds of small businesses as well as area residents and other community partners and adjusted our 2019 construction schedule on 17 Avenue S.W. Construction will be suspended for the entire duration of the Flames run for the Cup.
The Calgary Police Service will be out in high-traffic locations for all home and away games to support safe and responsible celebrations. The City has placed more than two dozen portable toilets along 17 Avenue S.W.
Parking Bans & Road Closures
On game days, there will be various parking restrictions along 17 Avenue from the Saddledome (Macleod Trail) to 14 Street S.W. between 5 p.m. - 5 a.m. visit calgary.ca/playoffs for more information and updates.
To help ensure pedestrian and traffic safety, additional road closures may implemented throughout the downtown core as necessary. Follow local media or The City’s social media channels for updates.
