Attempted murder charges laid in domestic-related assault

A Calgary man has been charged with attempted murder following a domestic-related stabbing that occurred on Friday, July 12, 2024.

At approximately 6:50 p.m., police were called to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Quarry Way S.E., by neighbours who assisted a woman that had fled from her residence after being stabbed multiple times. The suspect left the area in his vehicle and EMS transported the victim to hospital in serious condition.

Police were able to track the suspect to the Traveller’s Inn, located at 4611 16 Avenue N.W., around 8:50 p.m. Containment on a room rented by the suspect was established and a warrant was issued for the Tactical Unit to enter the premises. Following unsuccessful attempted negotiations, the Tactical Unit entered the room and arrested the suspect at approximately 1:35 a.m., on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

The suspect was transported to hospital for precautionary measures and subsequently charged. Geoffrey STOOCHNOFF, 30, has been charged with attempted murder and seven counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order, including contact with the victim and not to possess any weapons. He remains in custody and will next appear in court on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
