ASIRT investigating Police Service Dog bite

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating following an incident earlier today where a child was bitten by an on-duty Police Service Dog (PSD).

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, at approximately 2:55 p.m., officers were attending to reports of a stolen vehicle in progress in the community of Erin Woods. 

In the process of searching for the suspect, the PSD bit the young girl, who was in a field that was being searched. The child received minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

Due to the traumatic nature of this incident, the CPS is providing support to the child and her family and will fully cooperate with the ASIRT investigation.

As the investigation is ongoing, no further information is available at this time.
