ASIRT investigating in-custody death

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating an in-custody death that occurred earlier today.

On Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025, at approximately 4:40 p.m., we responded to a residence in the 3900 block of 30 Avenue S.E., at the request of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) due to safety concerns related to a mental health call. Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 40s behaving erratically.

While officers attempted to take him into custody, the man became combative and assaulted one of the officers. Officers deployed tasers, but the man continued to resist and then went into medical distress. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

No officers sustained serious physical injuries.

As is standard practice, the Director of Law Enforcement was notified and has directed ASIRT to investigate.

As this is now an active ASIRT investigation, no further details will be released.
