Appeal for information regarding 2020 arson

 We are seeking public assistance for information in relation to a believed arson dating back to last year.

On Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at approximately 4 a.m., police were called to assist the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) with evacuating homes in the zero to 100 block of Nolanfield Lane N.W. due to a house fire. CFD brought the fire under control, however, as a result of the fire, multiple homes sustained extensive damages, with some being complete losses.

Our partners at CFD determined the fire to be suspicious and engaged our Arson Unit to investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident. After a comprehensive investigation, we are now sharing CCTV footage of the moment the fire is believed to have started and two people seen in the area immediately afterward.

The first individual is described as a man with a medium build, wearing a hooded sweater. The second is described as a man with a slim build, wearing a white jacket, black pants and white shoes. Video footage of the fire and these individuals is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom. We appreciate that some of the footage is grainy, however, if anyone recognizes unique characteristics of the individuals seen in the videos, please contact police.

“This fire had devastating impacts on multiple families and their homes,” said Staff Sergeant Rod Harbidge. “Some residents lost everything, and we are asking for anyone with information to contact police. We believe someone in the community could have seen suspicious activity in the area of Nolanfield Lane prior to the fire breaking out and are hoping to speak to them.”
