Calgarians invited to Beacons of Hope: Thanking Calgary Police Service Members

The following release is being shared on behalf of the Beacons of Hope committee.

The Beacons of Hope committee is pleased to invite all Calgarians to the second annual Beacons of Hope – a free family party celebrating those who keep up safe – on Saturday, May 13, 2023, from noon to 5 p.m. at McMahon Stadium.

This community event includes displays, demonstrations, activities, live entertainment featuring country star Bobby Wills, fun competitions, an inflatable obstacle course, face painters, food trucks and more.

Discover several displays of police equipment including patrol cars, helicopter, motorcycles, mounted patrol (horses), armoured vehicles, duty gear, tactical gear and robots, etc. and also includes displays and activities from the Calgary Police YouthLink Interpretive Centre.

A highlight of the event takes place at 3 p.m. with the Battle of the Beacons – a series of fun competitions for all ages including three-legged races, sack races and culminates with the Challenge the Chief tug-of-war.

People will have an opportunity to meet with their local Calgary Police Service members in a positive environment, shake their hands, and thank them for the work they do every day to keep the city safe.

“These are the people who are running into danger when the rest of us are running away. We want to make sure we thank our officers, and that they know that we see them as the heroes that they are.,” says Beacons of Hope Co-founder Jackson McDonough. “This is a great way for us to tell them that every day, when they put on their badge and they go to work, Calgarians are behind them, we appreciate them, and we are very thankful.”

“We know that the overwhelming majority of Calgarians support the work of the Calgary Police Service, but sometimes it can be difficult to share that appreciation, and it can be drowned out by negativity and fear. Beacons of Hope brings Calgarians together to uplift the community and inspire positivity,” says Beacons of Hope Committee Chairman Sean Libin.

Calgarians are also invited to show their support by leaving a message of appreciation on the Beacons of Hope website. Help us let the members of the Calgary Police Service Know what they mean to Calgarians.
