Additional information sought in the homicide of Shawn McCORMACK

Investigators have learned additional information about the July 2022 homicide of Shawn McCORMACK and believe that additional suspects remain at large in the community.

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police were called for reports that a body was located in an alley behind the 1100 block of Frontenac Avenue S.W. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased man, later identified as Shawn Garry McCORMACK, 34, of Calgary.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, Devon William SHEDRICK, 29, of Calgary was charged with one count of first-degree murder in relation to the homicide. It is believed that additional people aided SHEDRICK during the incident.

After reviewing CCTV and conducting additional interviews, investigators believe that McCORMACK was murdered at a residence located in the 2400 block of 36 Street S.E., and that the victim was then transported to the alley in Upper Mount Royal where his body was located. Based on evidence collected, it is believed that several people were present during the homicide and provided assistance to transport the victim’s remains.

“While we have charged one individual, this investigation is far from over,” says Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We believe that additional people were involved in the homicide, which took place in Forest Lawn, as well as in aiding the suspects after the incident. We will not stop investigating and reviewing evidence until everyone who was involved is arrested and held accountable.”

Investigators have also received several tips from the public in relation to a unique blanket that was located at the Mount Royal scene. We are continuing to follow up on these leads and encourage anyone with information about the owner of the blanket to contact police. The blanket is believed to have significance to the investigation and has an image of a dream catcher and two white birds on it. A photo is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

Additional arrests are expected.
