Additional charges laid against Richard MANTHA

We have laid additional charges in an investigation into the alleged kidnapping, drugging and sexual assault of multiple women from the Calgary area.

Following the announcement of charges being laid on Monday, April 10, 2023, two additional women have come forward to report that they had also been drugged and assaulted. The additional assaults are believed to have occurred:

  • In September 2021, at a hotel located in the 2200 block of Banff Trail N.W.
  • On multiple occasions between September 2020 and December 2022, at a residence located in the 2500 block of 49 Avenue S.E., as well as the rural property located on Vale View Road, Rocky View County.

Today, Richard Robert MANTHA, 59, of Rocky View County, has been charged with an additional two counts of sexual assault and two counts of administering a noxious thing. MANTHA will next appear in court today, Friday, May 12, 2023.

In total, MANTHA has now been charged with 20 offences against five different victims.

This investigation remains ongoing and we encourage anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault to report it to their local police agency. Victims are reminded that there is no statute of limitations on the reporting of a sexual assault in Canada.

Historically, crimes committed against women working in the sex trade are underreported and we know that not all victims will feel comfortable reporting to police. Anyone who is the victim of sexual assault can also reach out directly to additional resources that are available including through Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse211 Alberta, the Alberta One-Line for Sexual Violence and Her Victory.
