Additional charges laid against cardiologist

We have laid additional sexual assault charges against a Calgary-based cardiologist.

In February 2022, we announced that 66-year-old Michael Stephen CONNELLY had been charged with sexual assault after a victim reported that she had been inappropriately touched without her consent by the cardiologist in December 2012.

Four additional victims have since come forward to report their experiences and as a result, CONNELLY has been charged with an additional four counts of sexual assault. He will next appear in court on Friday, May 20, 2022.

“Everyone should feel safe when seeking medical care,” said Staff Sergeant Michelle Doyle with the Calgary Police Service Sexual Assault Investigative Unit. “It is especially egregious when members of our community are victimized by an individual in a position of trust.”

May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month in Alberta. Sexual violence can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, or cultural background and can have serious impacts on victims and their families.

Confidential and trauma informed community supports are available to anyone who is a victim of sexual abuse or violence through the Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA) Support and Information Line at 403-237-5888.
