38th Annual Calgary Police Half Marathon set to run this weekend

Come out and support participants of the Calgary Police Half Marathon, 10K, 5K Run & Walk and 1K Rookies & Legends

Sunday, April 29 marks the 38th annual running of the Calgary Police Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K Run & Walk, and 1K Rookies & Legends (kids and seniors) event.

The iconic race has been a staple in the Calgary running community for decades and is continually evolving to ensure there is something for everyone.

This is the second year the Calgary Police Half Marathon has partnered with the Calgary Police Foundation. Our “Run with a Purpose” continues to raise funds for six youth-based programs the Foundation funds. All programs work exclusively with the CPS in helping youth stay out of a life of crime or becoming a victim of it. To date, more than $50,000 has been raised thanks to the many Calgarians and organizations supporting this highly anticipated event.

This year, we are excited to welcome Cindy Klassen, six-time Winter Olympic medalist for long track speed skating. Cindy will be interacting with participants, handing out medals, signing autographs and posing for photos.

As in years past, the race starts and finishes on the west side of Mount Royal University, located at 4825 Mount Royal Gate S.W. The Half Marathon will start at 8 a.m., followed by the 10K at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K at 8:30 a.m. The indoor 1 Km race starts at 8:30 a.m.

The first police half marathon in 1980 started and finished at the Calgary Zoo with 250 participants. This year an estimated 1,350 supporters and enthusiasts will be participating in the various categories.

Due to a number of road closures for the race, residents who live in the areas of Lakeview, Garrison Woods, Lincoln Park and North Glenmore may be impacted by temporary traffic delays from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Vehicles wishing to enter and exit the community during that time will be directed by police and course marshals when it is safe to proceed. Spectators are welcome to come out and support the runners.
