2025 General Election: Canada Post Mail Service Delivery Disruptions
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) began a national strike action at 4:00 MST Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025. As a result, Canada Post mail service delivery has been suspended and will impact select voter services for the General Election on Oct. 20, 2025.
Elections Calgary has implemented the following strategies to mitigate impact to voters in these areas:
Voter Information Card delivery
Delivery of Voter Information Cards began following Nomination Day during the week of Sept. 22, 2025 and only reached a portion of Calgary households prior to the suspension of Canada Post mail delivery. One (1) Voter Information Card was prepared for delivery to each household, addressed to “Resident(s) of (address),” not a specific voter. Elections Calgary is assessing with Canada Post which addresses have not yet received a Voter Information Card.
The Voter Information Card is not required to vote and does not serve as a form of identification in the voting station.
The Voter Information Card indicates the voter’s designated Election Day voting station, provides information on voter eligibility and contains a QR code to the Where Do I Vote tool. Voters can use the Where Do I Vote tool along with the Voter Guide (delivered to households the week of Sept. 8, 2025 and available online at electionscalgary.ca) to find their designated Election Day voting station, or call Elections Calgary at 403-476-4100 for assistance.
Special (mail-in) ballot delivery Delivery of mail-in ballot packages requested prior to Oct. 3 will be made by courier, where possible. Return courier will be at the voter's expense. Packages requested after Oct. 3 must be picked up in person at the Elections Calgary office. More information about mail-in ballots is available:

· Refer to your Voter Guide. For the 2025 General Election, the Voter Guide was distributed to all Calgary households early starting the week of Sept. 8, 2025 to allow additional delivery time in the event of a Canada Post mail service disruption. The Voter Guide is also available online.
· Look for additional copies of the Voter Guide that will be distributed through a household flyer service that is not impacted by the Canada Post mail service disruption (to take place Oct. 2, 2025) and at select Calgary Transit LRT and bus stops, Calgary Public Library branches, hospitals, grocery stores, cafes and other public community locations.
