2021 General Election – Worker applications now open

Elections Calgary is hiring approximately 3,600 election workers to facilitate voting in the 2021 General Election. Applications open Aug. 3, 2021.

“Elections Calgary is looking for customer-focused and collaborative individuals who are passionate about their community and interested in the democratic process,” said Kate Martin, Returning Officer for the 2021 General Election. “Elections are an important time for Calgarians as they choose future leaders to guide our city. Election workers ensure the voting process is safe, accessible and efficient.”

All election worker positions are paid positions. A number of stand-by election workers are also hired to ensure all positions are filled should a cancellation occur.

Individuals do not have to be Canadian citizens to work the election, but they must be:

  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • At least 18 years of age for most positions (a limited number of positions are available for youth who are 16 and 17 years old)
  • Available to complete an online training course (approx. 1 hr) and attend a 2-4 hour daytime training session in September/October. The training time ranges depending on the election worker role.

Available to work extended hours on Election Day (Oct. 18) and during the Advance Vote (Oct. 4-10)

Individuals who meet these qualifications and would like to be a part of the Elections Calgary team can complete an application at electionscalgary.ca. For more information, visit electionscalgary.ca or call 403-476-4100. Due to the expected volume of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.

Elections Calgary is hosting a free online information session to learn more about election worker opportunities: Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, from 10 a.m.–11 a.m. Register here to participate.

If you are unable to attend, a recording will be posted on electionscalgary.ca, along with a copy of questions and answers.
