2021 General Election – Third Party Advertiser Information Sessions

Elections Calgary is holding the second of a series of online information sessions. This next session is for individuals, corporations or groups who are, or plan to register as, a Third Party Advertiser in Calgary's 2021 General Election.

Recent amendments to the Local Authorities Election Act include rules related to finances and accountability of Third Parties that involve advertising during an election period (May 1 to October 18, 2021), with an advertising message that promotes or opposes the election of a candidate.

Third parties that intend to engage in election advertising are required to register and need to complete Form 27 - Registration of a Third Party and return it to Elections Calgary. Please email elections@calgary.ca to return the form or set up a time to drop it off at the office.

To learn more, we are holding two online information sessions for Third Party Advertisers. The online sessions will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and a computer or mobile device is required to join the presentation.

Please register to join us on April 13 from 10-11:30 a.m. or April 14 from 3-4:30 p.m.

Both sessions will present the same information; a copy of the presentation will be posted online at a later date.

The online information sessions will include a presentation followed by a question and answer period and will include information on the following:

  • What is a Third Party Advertiser?
  • Third Party Advertiser registration process
  • Election advertising
  • Advertising campaign considerations

Anyone interested in attending a session can register at electionscalgary.ca. Please note that the sessions are intented to provide general information only. All Third Party Advertisers are subject to further requirements in the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA). Candidates and Third Party Advertisers are advised to refer to the LAEA and obtain legal advice regarding the full extent of their obligations.
