2018 Chief's Awards Gala

The Calgary Police Service 2018 Chief’s Awards Gala will take place tonight, Thursday, June 7, 2018, to honour citizens along with sworn and civilian members of the Service who performed exemplary acts of courage and commitment to their community.

A new category has been added to the Chief’s Awards this year. The Excellence in Mental Health Intervention award recognizes exemplary de-escalation techniques, compassion, respect or critical judgement in dealing with an individual experiencing a mental health crisis. Five members of the Calgary Police Service will be receiving this award in honour of their dedication to vulnerable Calgarians.

In total, Chief Constable Roger Chaffin will be presenting awards to 29 citizens, one RCMP member, two EMS personnel, two AHS personnel, two Calgary 9-1-1 Emergency Communication Officers, one CPS civilian member and 36 sworn CPS members at the Gala.

Citizen recipient stories range from saving the lives of people experiencing mental health crisis, stopping a bank robber, intervening in violent attacks and helping better the lives of people in our community through community service efforts. CPS sworn member stories vary from saving the lives of victims of attempted murders and those in crisis, to safely evacuating people from fires and commitment to initiatives that better our communities.

All of the award recipients have exceeded expectations to assist those in need and make Calgary a stronger community.
