Violent robbery suspects arrested and charged

Two people wanted on warrants in connection with violent robberies in Calgary have been arrested by the Edmonton Police Service.

The arrests stemmed from an investigation into two robberies from December and January.

On Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, a man arranged a meeting at a northeast Calgary hotel through an online personal ad. Instead of meeting the person he was expecting, the victim was visited by a man and a woman who produced a machete, held the victim against his will, then assaulted and robbed the victim.

Then, in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, another victim was visited at his residence by a man after that victim also responded to an online personal ad. Shortly after entering the home, the man produced a firearm and held the victim against his will. The first man was then joined by another man and woman, and the three proceeded to assault and rob the victim.

Police asked the public for help locating two people wanted on warrants in connection with the second incident on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017.

Bradley ZEHR, 31, of Calgary, was arrested in Edmonton on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017. He is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful confinement and unlawfully being in a dwelling.

Caitlyn WEIMER, 25, of Calgary, was arrested in Edmonton on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017. She is now charged with two counts of unlawful confinement, and one count each of aggravated assault, unlawfully being in a dwelling and robbery.

More charges are pending against both individuals and they remain in custody. Investigators are also still trying to identify the third suspect in the second robbery.
