Update on enforcement of weekend anti-mask rally

The Calgary Police Service has identified six individuals who were organizers of last weekend’s anti-mask rally.

Three individuals have been served with tickets in connection with the illegal gathering. Three other individuals are currently being sought and are facing charges.

  • Artur PAWLOWSKI, has been charged under section 73(1) of the Public Health Act (PHA) for contravening order of medical officer of health, failing to wear a face covering where required and failing to have a permit for an event.
  • David PAWLOWSKI, has been charged under section 73(1) of the Public Health Act (PHA) for contravening order of medical officer of health and failing to wear a face covering where required.
  • Ryan AUDETTE, has been charged under section 73(1) of the Public Health Act (PHA) for contravening order of medical officer of health and failing to wear a face covering where required.

The Calgary Police Service continues to work with our City partners to ensure enforcement of all public health act orders and bylaws.

It must be noted that due to safety concerns for both law enforcement and members of the community, it is not always prudent to issue a ticket at the time of an alleged offence. For example, during a protest or event where emotions are high. In many instances, tickets are issued in the hours or days after an infraction based on evidence obtained at the time of the event.

We know everyone is struggling right now and our intent is not to punish, but to protect the safety of Calgarians as we work together through this pandemic.
