Twenty-two drug and firearms charges laid
The Calgary Police Service has laid 22 charges and seized multiple weapons following an investigation into a street-level drug operation.
In March 2017, an investigation was initiated by the CPS Strategic Enforcement Unit as a result of information from the community regarding drug trafficking. On Tuesday, April 11, 2017, officers arrested one man in the area of 17 Avenue and 18 Street S.W. During the arrest, officers seized methamphetamine, throwing knives and a can of bear spray.
Later that day, a search warrant was executed in the 2000 block of 18 Avenue S.W., with the assistance of members from the Tactical Unit, Canine Unit and District 2. A man and a woman located at the residence were taken into custody without incident. The following items were seized as a result of the search:
- Drugs, including psilocybin, methamphetamine, heroin and LSD tabs
- Scales and packaging
- Cell phones
- A .357 caliber-style Crosman airgun
- A .177 caliber Crosman Vigilante airgun
- A Crosman C11 semi-automatic airgun
- A flare gun which had been modified to shoot 12-gauge shotgun rounds

Though no drugs were sold to children, it is alleged the drug trafficking occurred directly beside a school playground where children are regularly present.
Terry Peter Junior KETLO, 35, of Calgary, has been charged with five counts each of trafficking and possession of proceeds obtained by crime, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Tyler John HARTMAN, 37, of Calgary, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of break-in instruments.
Brittany Leigh OTTENBREIT, 31, of Calgary, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized possession of a firearm, breach of recognizance and seven outstanding warrants.
KETLO, HARTMAN and OTTENBREIT will next appear in court on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
The strategic enforcement of drug and weapons trafficking is a priority for the Calgary Police Service. Illegal drug activity is a danger to the community and a root cause of social disorder, violent crime and property crime. Vehicle thefts, break and enters and robberies are often committed by those trying to fuel addiction. The CPS aims to address root causes of crime through crime reduction strategies and community partnerships to ensure Calgary remains a safe place to live.
