Suspect identities sought in Saddleridge shooting

The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance in identifying several men who were involved in a shooting incident in Saddleridge earlier this year.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., on Friday, March 17, 2017, two groups of men – approximately eight people – began shooting at each other in the intersection of Saddlecrest Park and Saddlecrest Boulevard N.E. It’s believed several of the suspects were carrying firearms, and at least six shots were fired with two of those recovered from nearby homes.

It’s unknown if anyone sustained injuries in the shooting as no one sought medical assistance following the incident.

All of the men fled from the area prior to police arrival, however, two were arrested a short time later hiding in a residential area. A photo of the incident captured by nearby CCTV is being released in hopes of assisting with identifying the other individuals involved.

Two vehicles were seen speeding away from the area and are also believed connected to this incident. Police are seeking information related to a 2007, white, four-door, Honda Civic, and a 2015, white, four-door Honda Accord.

Officers from several areas of the Service are working collaboratively on this case, including members of the General Investigations Unit, Diversity Resources Team, District 5 and the Criminal Intelligence Unit.

While details about the case remain limited, it is believed the incident stems from an ongoing dispute between two groups of men in their early 20s, within the South Asian community. Officers have been working with community leaders in hopes of finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing disagreement.

Two men were arrested and one was charged in connection with this incident.

Jasdeep BRAR, 21, of Calgary, was charged with weapons offences.
