Statement on ASIRT Results

CALGARY – Calgary Police Commission Chair Rodney Fong issued the following statement in response to the results of ASIRT’s investigation into the allocation of CPS resources:

“The results of ASIRT’s independent investigation confirm what the Commission has already said- that the decision by CPS leadership and former Chief Hanson to deploy more resources to District 5 was based on evidence about the needs of the community.

“As I’ve previously stated, the Commission was aware that discussions about allocating resources to District 5, an area with high call volume and staff shortages, had been happening for quite some time before the memo was signed in March 2015.

“Rick Hanson and CPS leadership acted in good faith and in the best interests of the community.”
