Southeast home invasion investigation

The Calgary Police Service is currently investigating a home invasion that occurred in the southeast.

At approximately 12:05 a.m., on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, an elderly couple were asleep in their home located in the 1500 block of 49 Street S.E., when a man forced entry via the back door.

Once inside the residence the suspect entered the master bedroom and demanded money from the couple. He then assaulted both victims before leaving the residence.

Nothing appears to have been stolen at this time.

A man in his seventies and a woman in her sixties were transported to hospital where they are being treated for serious head injuries. Both are now in a stable condition.

Police are hoping to speak with the couple later today to get further details and to help determine if the offence was random or targeted.

It was dark in the residence, but the suspect has been described as between 25-35 years old and of heavy build. He was wearing a hood and ski mask.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service Robbery Unit at 403-428-8787, the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
