Sexual exploitation investigation continues after death of accused

A former teacher from John Ware Junior High School facing sexual assault and sexual exploitation charges related to alleged incidents between 1999 and 2005, has died. However, we still need anyone with information related to this case to come forward as the investigation continues.

Michael Andreassen GREGORY, 57, of De Winton, Alta., was charged with six counts of sexual assault and 11 counts of sexual exploitation before his death. His death is not believed to be criminal in nature.

When a suspect or accused passes away before an investigation is complete, we still finish examining all the evidence to try learn what happened. This hopefully allows us to give some closure and supports to victims, and helps ensure that no one else who still can be charged was involved in any offence.

In a case where an accused was in a position of trust, the investigation can also provide insights into how similar incidents can be prevented in the future.

Anyone with information related to this case is still asked to contact us by calling our non-emergency number at 403-266-1234 or emailing pol3522@calgarypolice.ca. Information can also be provided anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:

TALK: 1-800-222-8477
TYPE: www.calgarycrimestoppers.org
APP: "P3 Tips"

Outstanding confidential community supports are also available to anyone who is a victim of sexual abuse or violence through Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse. They can be reached through their Support and Information Line at 403-237-5888, or by calling Alberta One Line at 1-866-403-8000 if you are outside of Calgary.

We would also like to remind the public that there is no statute of limitations on criminal offences in Canada. Anyone who has been a victim of a serious crime is encouraged to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident.
