Serious collision involving city bus

We are investigating a serious injury collision that occurred yesterday between a bus and a large truck.

On Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020, at approximately 11 a.m., a 2021 Western Star “Tractor” Truck, driven by a 63-year-old man, was travelling north on 52 Street S.E. and was preparing to turn left onto westbound 90 Avenue S.E.

At the same time, a 2013 City of Calgary Transit articulated bus, with four passengers on board, driven by a 52-year-old man was travelling south on 52 Street S.E., approaching the intersection with 90 Avenue S.E.

The truck turned left in front of the bus and struck it on the left front corner. The bus continued past the truck and veered to the right where it struck a traffic light standard on the southwest corner of the intersection, causing significant damage to the front of the bus.

The truck was stopped by the rear of the bus and the two vehicles stayed together after impact.

The driver of the truck was treated on scene by EMS for minor injuries.

The driver of the bus and three of the four passengers were taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are considered factors in the collision.
