Seeking public assistance - Fatal hit-and-run along 16 Avenue N.W.

The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance in locating a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m., today, Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, two pedestrians, a male and a female, were witnessed walking west along 16 Avenue N.W from Bowfort Road N.W., near the ramp for Stoney Trail N.W.

The 44-year-old male pedestrian was walking along the painted traffic island separating the westbound lanes of 16 Avenue and westbound exit to Stoney Trail, when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that was merging from Stoney Trail to 16 Avenue.

The male was knocked to the ground and run over by the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The female was believed to be further west along 16 Avenue and was unaware that the collision occurred.

The vehicle, believed to be a large commercial vehicle or bus, failed to remain on scene.
