Seeking Public Assistance - Downtown Assault

The Calgary Police Service is seeking witnesses to a serious assault yesterday morning in the downtown.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, emergency crews responded to the 200 block of 11 Avenue S.E., for reports of a man who was unconscious and in medical distress. Upon arrival, crews found a 22-year-old man suffering from critical injuries to his head.

No one witnessed what had happened to the victim, but officers were told by a passerby that they were flagged down by a man who told them to call 911, and then ran from the area.

A description of this person was circulated and officers found a man matching the description nearby. He was arrested and after further investigation, officers charged him with assaulting the victim.

It’s alleged the victim was assaulted during the robbery of his cellphone.
