The City of Calgary promotes safe Trick or Treating through Partners For Safety program

The City of Calgary is pleased to support the annual Partners for Safety program this Halloween by supplying patrols to help ensure young trick or treaters have a safe and enjoyable evening. Tonight, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., more than 800 vehicles will be patrolling Calgary’s streets as a proactive approach to Halloween safety.

 

Originally founded by UNICEF in 1995, the Partners for Safety program has helped keep hundreds of thousands of children safe during Halloween. Supporters of the program include Animal & Bylaw Services, Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Transit, the Calgary Police Service, Emergency Medical Services, Shaw TV and Calgary’s Child Magazine. Between calls, Calgary Police Service, Emergency Medical Services and Animal & Bylaw Services will have units patrolling residential neighborhoods. The Calgary Fire Department will have vehicles on patrol and community fire stations will be open as a safe place for youngsters in need of help.

 

The City of Calgary Transit buses and C-Trains will be providing transit service from early morning until late at night, as per their daily schedule. If young trick-or-treaters need assistance, they are encouraged to safely approach a transit vehicle to seek help. Each vehicle has a radio and in an emergency, the bus or C-Train operator can request to have the appropriate emergency personnel dispatched.

The safety of children especially on Halloween is everyone’s concern. Motorists are reminded to be extra cautious when driving on Halloween night
