On Wednesday, 2012 October 24, at approximately 4:40pm, a serious injury collision involving a total of four vehicles occurred on Sarcee Trail near 16 Avenue NW.
A 2006 Kenworth truck, hauling an empty gravel trailer and being driven by a 78 year old male, was travelling south on Sarcee Trail in the far right lane from 16 Avenue, when it suddenly swerved to the left. The truck side-swiped a 2012 Ford Focus, being driven by a 37 year old female, and continued over all the south lanes before it crossed the centre median and knocked down a light standard. The truck fully entered the opposite lanes and struck a northbound 1997 Ford Ranger pickup truck head-on. The semi finally came to rest after striking yet a third vehicle, a 2001 GMC Van.
The driver of the semi and driver of the GMC Van were both uninjured. The woman driving the Ford Focus was transported by EMS to the hospital with minor injuries. The 35 year old male driver of the Ford truck was transported by EMS to the hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.
Sarcee Trail was closed in the area for approximately five hours while collision investigators from the Calgary Police Traffic Section conducted their scene examinations.
Alcohol and road conditions were not factors in this collision.
The CPS Traffic Section continues to investigate and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call 403-567-4000, or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
