At 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29 the Municipal Emergency Plan was activated in response to a fire at a metal recycling facility in the 3400 block of Ogden Rd SE.

Due to the nature of the fire and the materials burning, air quality testing and monitoring are being conducted to determine air quality levels in the immediate area. The material burning consists of scrap auto-parts, rubber and plastics. There is no immediate concern for area residents and toxicity levels in the air are negligible.

The Calgary Fire Department is in command and is being supported by the Calgary Emergency Management Agency on scene.

Ogden Road SE is reduced to two lanes between Bonny Brook Road SE and 34 Ave SE. This reduction in lanes will last at least through Monday.
