Drug Investigations Lead to Arrest

The Calgary Police Service has concluded two successful drug investigations in the northeast, seizing marijuana, cocaine and a loaded firearm.
 
On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, District 5 officers with the assistance of the Tactical Unit executed a search warrant in the 2300 block of 50 Street N.E., and arrested one man inside the home. During the search, officers seized approximately $1,500 cash, various drug trafficking paraphernalia, four grams of powder cocaine valued at $400, four grams of crack cocaine valued at $400 and a loaded 9-mm handgun.
 
Khalil Oday FARES, 29, of Calgary, faces eight drug and weapons-related charges.
 
On Wednesday, May 2, 2012, officers executed a separate search warrant at a residence on Saddlecrest Gardens N.E. Inside, officers seized 639 marijuana plants in various stages of growth. The plants had an estimated street value of $798,750.
 
As is common in these types of investigations, civil forfeiture proceedings are already underway.
