Closure date for disaster recovery program applications

August 03, 2012 08:26 AM Category: Emergency Preparedness, People Resources, Water
The time period during which to claim uninsurable damages sustained during two weather events in 2011 is ending August 22, 2012.

Citizens of Calgary who sustained uninsurable damage to their homes, small businesses and agricultural operations during the flooding events of May 25 - 29, 2011 or August 5, 2011 can still submit a claim up to August 22, 2012. Only uninsurable damage sustained during either of these events is eligible.

The Province of Alberta’s Disaster Recovery Program is a province-wide financial assistance program that helps residents, small businesses and agricultural operations return uninsurable property loss to pre-disaster condition. Disaster recovery programs are designed to assist with essential needs for losses and damage to homes, farms and small businesses only where insurance is not available.

Only those sustaining damage from the two events mentioned above are eligible to apply for assistance.

The Disaster Recovery Program assistance is provided by the Province of Alberta, and has been facilitated and coordinated for affected citizens by the Calgary Emergency Management Agency. To date, almost 450 applications have been received from residents and small businesses for these two weather events, and $1.6 million has been paid in assistance.

Applications that have been submitted and are under review are not affected by the August 22, 2012 deadline.
