Celebrating Seniors Creativity in Calgary

October 18, 2012 12:16 PM Category: Arts & Culture, Recreation & Leisure, Seniors
The City of Calgary Recreation invites Calgarians to be inspired by the imagination and creativity of Calgary senior’s artistic expressions. This fall, seniors participated in a joint City of Calgary Recreation and Calgary 2012 Artist in Residency program celebrating Calgary as a Cultural Capital of Canada and Recreation’s 100 anniversary.

During September and October, seniors were encouraged to explore their relationship to the community and recreation through drawing and painting. Professional artist, Alice Helwig who taught the classes, will be on hand at the art opening to unveil the spectacular artwork created by seniors participating in the program that was held at Renfrew Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

A special high tea service will be served during the opening to celebrate 100 years of Recreation, Calgary as a Cultural Capital of Canada in 2012, and recognize the contribution seniors in the community make to the extraordinary recreational and cultural landscape enjoyed by all Calgarians today.
