Police respond to threats made at SAIT

At approximately 11:50 a.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, the Calgary Police Service was called to the Heritage Hall building at SAIT’s main campus after a school employee was threatened by a man. Early reports raised concerns that the same man may have had a weapon in his possession.

Campus Security and police responded and initiated a search for the individual, however, it was quickly determined that the suspect left campus shortly after making the threat. Since it was found that there was no threat to the campus, the campus was not locked-down.

A short time later, the suspect was located at a residence in the community of Sandstone and was taken into custody without incident. He was found to have a handgun-shaped lighter in his possession.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
