Police lay charge relating to the Crescent Heights suspicious death

The Calgary Police Service has charged a man in connection with dismembering and trying to dispose of a woman’s body after she died.

At approximately 8 a.m., on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, police were called to a lightly-forested area on the west side of the intersection of Centre Street N. and Samis Road N.E., after a citizen found a body. The death is considered suspicious because the body was concealed and not intact. Police were unable to identify the deceased woman, even after her autopsy the following day.

After investigating a tip from the public, police now believe that the woman died at a residence in the 3900 block of 1 Street N.W. It is alleged a man who lived at the residence then decided to dispose of her remains in multiple locations, including the park in Crescent Heights.

Joshua Jordan WEISE, 40, of Calgary, is charged with one count offering an indignity to human remains. He is next scheduled to appear in court today.

The identity of the victim will not be released because it has not been determined whether she died as a result of a criminal act, however police continue to work with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.

The woman’s next of kin has been notified.

The Calgary Police Service would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance with this investigation. Numerous tips from the public helped investigators move the case forward, ultimately identifying the victim and laying this charge.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information, who has not already spoken to police, is asked to call the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877.
