Police lay charges in 2017 homicide

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has laid charges in a homicide that occurred early last year.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, police were called to a closed bank located at 4820 Northland Drive N.W., after a security guard found a woman in distress outside. She was taken to hospital by EMS where she succumbed to her injuries in the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 24, 2017.

The victim was identified as 28-year-old Trisheena SIMON.

Following an extensive investigation, police were able to identify and locate a suspect in the case. It is believed the suspect and victim were known to each other and had recently met before the incident. The evening of the incident, it is alleged that the victim and suspect had an altercation that escalated to violence. It is unknown what the altercation was over.

Crystal MILLS, 45, of Lethbridge, Alta., is charged with manslaughter in relation to this incident. MILLS will next appear in court in Calgary on Friday, May 25, 2018.
