Police investigating after deceased newborn found

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit is investigating an undetermined death after a deceased infant was found in the community of Bowness last night.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, a resident of the community called police after finding the body of a newborn infant in a parking lot behind a grocery store, located at the intersection of Bowness Road and 79 Street N.W.

Investigators believe the child could have been left there as early as the late afternoon, however, it is not clear how or when the child died. An autopsy on the child is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017.
