Pair charged in string of tire thefts

The Calgary Police Service has charged a mother and son in connection with a string of tire thefts across the city.

The first incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, when a man and a woman stole four truck tires from inside a fenced yard beside a residence located in the 14000 block of Deer Ridge Drive S.E. The theft was caught on CCTV and the footage helped police identify suspects.

Warrants were issued for the suspects’ arrest, however they could not be located.

While police were working to locate the suspects, it is believed that the same man and woman stole eight more tires from two homes in Auburn Bay, between Monday, April 11, 2016, and Wednesday, April 13, 2016. In both cases, it appears the tires were taken from the backyard of the homes and loaded into a waiting truck.

Police located the suspects on Thursday, April 14, 2016, and arrested them on outstanding warrants without incident.

Julie Della STRAZA, 65, of Calgary, is charged with one count of theft under $5,000.

Stanley Anthony STRAZA, 37, of Calgary, is charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of operating a motor vehicle without a licence.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending against both individuals.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
