One-way traffic extended on 14th and 15th Avenue S.W.

CALGARY — To prepare for the next phase of construction as part of The City’s 17th Avenue S.W. Reconstruction Project, temporary traffic pattern changes are being introduced to a new portion of both 14th and 15th Avenue.

Starting on Wednesday, July 18, 14th & 15th Avenue between 8th and 11th Street SW will become one-way streets, with 14th Avenue accommodating westbound traffic and 15th Avenue eastbound.

“Although construction on 17th Avenue has been paused until September, introducing these changes now will allow Calgarians to become accustomed to the new flow of traffic in the area,” says Duane Delaney, Manager of Major Road Projects with The City. “These changes will not only increase traffic calming with the addition of new signalized intersections and stop signs, but will also help to maintain the east-west connection and allow traffic to continue operating during construction.”

To facilitate the setup of the one-way traffic pattern, temporary no-parking signs will be set up on July 17, 24 hours before work begins, and will remain in place until the one-ways have been completed. Vehicles remaining on the roadways when work begins will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Once the set-up work is complete, both 14th and 15th Avenues will offer parking on both sides of the street, in addition to an on-street bike lane.
