Officer involved shooting

Calgary police are investigating following an officer involved shooting that occurred earlier today.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, police pulled over a truck near the intersection of 12 Mile Coulee Road and Blueridge Rise N.W. While attempting to conduct the traffic stop, the male passenger of the truck pushed the driver out of the vehicle. He then moved to the driver’s seat and manoeuvered the truck in proximity to the officers when shots were fired. He then fled at a high rate of speed.

After driving to Cochrane, the man exited the vehicle. Calgary police, in conjunction with the RCMP, located the vehicle. One man was taken into custody a short time later.

No one was injured as a result of this incident.

As is protocol in these incidents, Calgary police will investigate the incident. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) will be reviewing the investigation.
